There is always something useful available in the form of gnome-applets. Earlier, I wrote about  Deskbar, that lets you handle almost anything using a single text-box. Now, its this great clipboard manager, glipper, for all of those who(like me) have done the mistakes of overwriting something important they copied and wished for a way to switch to the previous copied text.

So, I think my search for a live network bandwidth monitor finally ended with this screenlet, netmonitor. Bmon and vnstat were working fine, but I was looking for something that can be present all the time on the screen without hindering other apps. A Screenlet was indeed the best option to go for.

Edit/Create subtitles with gnome-subtitles, a subtitle editor for GNOME

I like keeping a collection of my favorite TV shows and Movies along with the subtitles. For a single playback, I won't mind fixing the subtitle from the player's settings, even though its frustrating most of the times, but while making a collection, you need perfect subtitles. Finding the correct one is not an easy task and neither is editing it. This is where a subtitle-editor comes in handy. Gnome-subtitles is one such tool and by far my favorite.

Next Gedit release will have a plugin for Collaborative Editing

We have already talked about a web-based collaborative editing tool today, Etherpad. So, after that I started looking for some native linux applications which do the same thing and came across Gobby and a new collaboration plugin for Gedit. We can talk about Gobby sometime later, I am more interested to tell you about this new plugin in Gedit .

Geyes, a funny way to track your mouse pointer

Has any of you ever noticed the eyes launcher in the "add to panel" option. I just came across it and its pretty funny. Really, the application is nothing more than one or a pair or even three eyeballs staring at the mouse pointer all the time. Although there is a preference option to choose the kind of eye you want staring at the pointer .

GraphMonkey - a simple, light-weight graph calculator and plotter

While doing Mathematics assignment in my second semester, I had to look up for a lot of graphs/curves of various functions. I always used gplot, which is no doubt the best tool when it comes to graphs. But usually before using it I had to take a quick look at the keywords in its help guide. Until I found GraphMonkey, I always wondered if there was an even simpler application, which hardly expects you to know anything other than the equation.

Have you ever gone through the items listed in the "add to panel" option? If not, then you are missing one of the finest GNOME features. It has a great number of some really useful applets. I just ran into one of them, Deskbar applet and believe me, when they say its an "all in one" tool they are not kidding. It really does almost everything one frequently needs.

Pessulus, Lockdown Editor, restrict/lock stuff on your Public Gnome Desktop

Managing pc's for public use can be a challenge as you don't want people to mess with system settings. Manually editing configuriguration files for restricting these access can be a big pain. But with pessulus editor you can easily freeze features that you don't want your users to have access to. For example, you wouldn't want people to log out, lock screen, edit panel shortcuts etc. It will lock some of the settings down for the onboard user so that your Desktop stays the way you like it. Well, you can do this using pessulus, a lockdown editor for GNOME desktops. This editor gives you the privilege to disable such features of your desktop.
